Hackathon Programme

We know how challenged one can feel when one starts a substantial research project, whether it is a Ph.D. dissertation, a BA or master’s thesis, or just a long class paper. However one can handle any project if one breaks it into its parts, then work on them one step at a time.

Weekend Hackathon will walk you through every step of the research and writing process and provides practical advice to help you formulate the right questions, read critically, and build arguments. It also shows you how to draft and revise your papers to strengthen both your arguments and your writing.

It offers a comprehensive guide to APA style of source citation, beginning with helpful information on general citation practices. It will help you bring consistency to your writing in matters such as punctuation, capitalization, and abbreviations. Hackathon will also include guidance on incorporating quotations into your writing and on accurately presenting tables and figures. The appendix presents formatting and submission requirements for theses and dissertations that many academic institutions use as a model, but be sure to follow any local guidelines provided by your institution.

When undertaking qualitative research, it doesn’t take long for things to get messy. You can quickly find yourself buried under interview transcripts, photographs, videos, memos, web sites, articles, and other texts. NVivo is a powerful data collection and analysis tool for the qualitative researcher.

In this 3 day workshop for beginners, we’ll look at strategies for getting your data into the system, setting up preferences for how you want to work, organizational principles, and other tips and tricks.

SPSS is a statistics and data analysis program for businesses, governments, research institutes, and academic organizations. In this boot-camp, Prof. Dr. Minhaaj Rehman takes a practical, visual, and non-mathematical approach to SPSS Statistics, explaining how to use the popular program to analyze data in ways that are difficult or impossible in spreadsheets, but which doesn't require you to master programming languages like Python or R.

From importing spreadsheets, to making data visualizations, to calculating descriptive statistics, we will cover all the basics, with an emphasis on clarity, interpretation, communicability, and application. This course is ideal for first-time researchers and those who want to make the most of data in their professional and academic work.

We will make use of participant data as well as theoretical groundwork for it.

SPSS Topics includes:
• Making data visualizations
• Creating regression variable plots
• Importing data and recoding variables
• Computing frequencies and correlations
• Reliability analysis
• k-means clustering
• Decision tree classification
• Analyzing data
• Building predictive models
• Exporting your work

SmartPLS 3
This two-day workshop introduces participants to the state-of-the-art of partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) using the SmartPLS 3 software. PLS-SEM is a composite-based approach to SEM, which aims at maximizing the explained variance of dependent constructs in the path model. Compared to other SEM techniques, PLS-SEM allows researchers to estimate very complex models with many constructs and indicator variables. Furthermore, PLS-SEM allows to estimate reflective and formative constructs and generally offers much flexibility in terms of data requirements.

PLS-SEM has recently received considerable popularity, including marketing (Hair et al 2011, according to Google scholar the most-cited article ever published in Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice; Hair et al. 2012a, according to Google scholar the most-cited Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science article since 2012), strategic management (Hair et al. 2012b, according to Google scholar the most-cited Long Range Planning article since 2012), management information systems (Ringle et al. 2012, according to Google scholar the fifth-most cited MIS Quarterly article since 2012), and business administration in general (Sarstedt et al. 2016, according to Google scholar the second-most cited article published in the Journal of Business Research since 2016).

Also, several papers substantiate that PLS-SEM has become a standard method in the multivariate analysis toolbox: e.g., Human Resource Management (Ringle et al., 2018), Hospitality Research (Ali et al., 2018), Information Systems Research (Hair et al., 2017), Management Accounting (Nitzl, 2016), International Business (Richter et al., 2016), Tourism (do Valle and Assaker, 2016), Psychology (Willaby et al., 2015), Supply Chain Management (Kaufmann and Gaeckler, 2015), Family Business (Sarstedt et al., 2014), Operations Management (Peng and Lai, 2012), Strategic Management (Hair et al., 2012), Marketing (Hair et al., 2012), Management Information Systems (Ringle et al., 2012), Accounting (Lee et al., 2011), and International Marketing (Henseler et al., 2009).
